Detail
How this works
The tool checks your notes against every scale on every root — 12 scales across 12 roots — and ranks them by an explicit fit calculation. Notes inside the scale count towards the fit; notes outside it subtract from it.
Ties are the honest answer, not a failure. A set of seven notes fits a major scale and all six of its modes equally, because they contain the same notes in a different order. The deciding factor is which note the music resolves to.
