Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded by your browser and measured in the page. It is never sent to a server and nothing is stored, so it is safe to use on unreleased material.

How do I check the sample rate and bit depth of a file?

Drop the file in. Sample rate, channel count and duration come from decoding it; bit depth is read from the WAV or AIFF header. Compressed formats such as MP3 and AAC carry no bit depth at all, so it is reported as not stated rather than invented.

What does the crest factor tell me?

Peak level minus average level. A large figure means the file still has transient movement; a small one means it has been compressed or limited heavily. It is a description of the file, not a judgement about it.

Can this tell me whether a file was converted from MP3?

It can indicate it. If energy stops abruptly well below half the sample rate, the audio probably passed through a lossy codec. That is evidence, not proof — some material genuinely has no high-frequency content.

Why does it report clipped samples when my meter says the mix is fine?

The count is of samples sitting at or above full scale in the file itself. Deliberate limiting can produce them intentionally, so a non-zero count is a flag to look at, not automatically a fault.

Every figure here is arithmetic over the decoded samples, so the same file always returns the same numbers. Container facts such as bit depth come from the file header rather than being inferred, which is why lossy formats show them as not stated.

The checks below the levels are the ones worth running before you commit a file to a dataset, a master or a release: clipping, DC offset, channel balance, whether a stereo file is really stereo, and whether the top end was ever thrown away by a codec.

None of this decides whether the audio is good. It tells you what is in the file so you can make that call yourself.
