How is width calculated?

The file is split into mid (the sum of both channels) and side (their difference), then width is the share of the total energy sitting in the side signal. 0% is mono, 50% is a broadly wide mix, and 100% means the channels are pure inversions of each other.

What width should a mix have?

There is no target. Most full mixes land somewhere between 15% and 40%; a mastered dance track can be narrower and an ambient piece much wider. Use it to compare your mix with a reference, not to hit a number.

What does dual mono mean?

Both channels are bit-identical, so the file carries no stereo information at all and is twice the size it needs to be. Either export mono or check whether a stereo stage got bypassed.

What is the balance figure?

The average level difference between left and right. A positive value means the left channel is louder. More than about 1.5 dB is worth checking unless it is a deliberate arrangement choice.

How this works

Mid/side is the honest way to look at width. The mid signal is what both channels share, the side signal is what they do not, and the ratio between them tells you how much of the file is stereo information rather than a centred mono image with decoration.

Numbers on their own mean little here. The useful move is comparison: measure your mix, then measure a released track in the same style, and see whether you are dramatically narrower or wider than the thing you are aiming at.

Two readings are worth acting on immediately. Dual mono means there is no stereo content at all, and a balance offset above roughly 1.5 dB usually points at a routing or panning mistake rather than an artistic decision.
