How this works
The conversion inverts the note-frequency formula: n = 69 + 12 × log₂(f / A4). Rounding n gives the nearest note, and the leftover fraction, multiplied by 100, is the deviation in cents.
This is most useful with an EQ open. Once you know that the resonance you are cutting is a G2 and the track is in G minor, the decision changes: you may want to tame it rather than remove it, because it is part of the harmony rather than a problem.
