Are my tracks uploaded anywhere?

No. Both files are decoded and analyzed by your browser in this page. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.

How close do two tempos need to be to mix?

Within a couple of percent you can beatmatch by ear with no audible artefacts. Up to about six percent a stretch is usable but starts to colour drums and vocals. Past ten percent the part changes character, and a half-time or double-time reading is usually the better answer.

Which keys actually work together?

The standard harmonic-mixing set: the same Camelot code, one step up, one step down, and the same number on the other side of the wheel — the relative major or minor. Anything else can still work musically, but it needs a deliberate transition rather than a blend.

Why does one track show an unexpected key?

Key detection is an estimate from the audio. Tracks that modulate, tracks with heavy sub bass and tracks that are mostly percussion give weak tonal evidence, so the confidence figure matters as much as the key itself. Always confirm by ear before a set.

Does pitching a track change its key?

Yes, unless your software preserves pitch while stretching. A plus three percent tempo pull with pitch attached moves the key by roughly half a semitone, which is enough to clash with the other track even though the beats line up.

How this works

Mixing two records is a tempo question and a harmony question, and they are usually answered separately with two different tools. Here both estimates run over both files and the results are compared directly, including the half-time and double-time readings that often turn an impossible tempo gap into an easy one.

The harmonic part uses the Camelot system, because it turns key relationships into simple neighbours. Same code, one step either way, or the same number on the other side of the wheel: those four options cover almost every blend that holds up in a room.

Confidence is shown next to every estimate on purpose. Percussive intros, modulating songs and heavily saturated masters all give weaker tonal evidence, and a low confidence reading is your cue to check by ear rather than trust the label.
