Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is decoded by your browser and checked in the page. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored, so unreleased material is safe.

What does this actually check?

Clipping, headroom, DC offset, channel balance, whether a stereo file carries real stereo information, spectral bandwidth, crest factor and the delivery format. Every item is a measurement of the file with a stated threshold.

How can I tell whether a WAV came from an MP3?

Look at the bandwidth line. Lossy encoders discard the top of the spectrum, so a file whose energy stops abruptly around 16 kHz was almost certainly compressed at some point even if it is now a WAV. It is strong evidence rather than proof, because some material genuinely has no high content.

Is clipping always a problem?

No. Deliberate limiting produces samples at full scale on purpose, and plenty of released records do it. The check flags it so you can decide whether it was intentional.

What format should I deliver to a distributor?

Lossless WAV or AIFF at the session sample rate, 24-bit where possible, with about a decibel of headroom. Send the lossless file and let the platform make its own compressed versions.

How this works

Most delivery problems are not mixing problems. They are a file that clips because the master fader was left where it was during the loudness war with itself, a stereo bounce with identical channels, or a WAV that was quietly rebuilt from an MP3 three sessions ago. All of those are visible in the numbers, and none of them are visible by listening once.

Each check here states its own threshold, so you can disagree with it. A flagged item means a measurement crossed a line that is usually worth investigating — not that the music is wrong. Creative decisions trip several of these on purpose.

Run it on the exact file you are about to send. Checking the session, the reference or last week's bounce tells you about a file nobody will ever hear.
